Wednesday 13 August

Hello from Lesley. Not sure we will have the same efficiency from President Lesley as we had from President Sue, but Bucasia Beach Quilters now enters another year after the AGM on 13 August. I look forward to another productive and interesting sewing year. We were low on numbers at the AGM. Maybe people prefer to stay home and sew than to attend business meetings. But the business was soon over and it was just another morning of chatting and sewing - both enjoyable.
Kaye brought in her bomb blocks. Just borders to add. (Sorry I moved the camera, but we'll get a better photo when it is finished.) What a great pattern this bomb turned out to be.
Faye has been playing with her AccuQuilt Fabric Cutter. This quilt is made entirely from scraps.
And Joan has finished the applique on this stunning kit quilt. It is visoflexed and machine appliqued with invisible thread but don't ask how many hours it took to iron all those pieces on!

I shall not be the permanent blog editor, but wanted to add these photos and keep the blog active until Di can take over the reigns.
Thanks to the past executive for your care in the running of the club. I trust the new executive will keep up the good work.

Goodbye from Sue

I've had 8 very interesting years at Bucasia Beach Quilters, the last year as your President, and as I leave Australia to return to England and my family there I say Thankyou to you all for fun and friendship.
It has been fun getting to know you and the Mackay area, and all the things we have done as a group are part of the enormous memory bank I have of my Australian experience.

You have made me some very special squares some of which are featured here. In time I will probably form them into some wall hangings which I know I and my Grandkiddies and family will enjoy. I hope many of you will keep in touch and I wish the new committee and all your ventures in the future much success.

Morning Tea at Calen

Here we are enjoying what we do best, having a chat, doing a spot of sewing and enjoying Morning Tea.

The newly built dining room belongs to the historic Calen pub that has been re-built after a terrible fire a couple of years ago. The new version is very welcoming and provided us with the perfect space.

We arrived by the car load, having arranged lifts and car-share with friends, passing the Strawberry Farm sales outlet by the roadside, and stopping there on the way home. Delicious locally grown sweet, juicy Strawberries! YUM!

The Pub Landlady gave us an interesting talking about the pub and local environment. Most people drive through Calen en route north, but the area has a lot to explore and enjoy.

The delicious Morning Tea consisted of scones with jam and cream, a tasty apple slice and savoury pizza style rolls, fresh fruit, and plenty of it.

Thank You ladies for all the hard work that went into the Quilt and Craft Show in July.
