12 May 2021

Another lovely day at Bucasia Beach Quilters.  I counted 27 members today, all enjoying a Chat and occasional Patch in our beautiful treed setting at the Bucasia Community Hall.

The monthly meeting was held and we had our monthly raffle draw, which Delma was the lucky recipient of a $25 voucher from Needleworx.

The badge draw was won by Marlena on the lucky table!

We get a steady stream of completed projects each week to enjoy.

Robyn has completed the Nine Colour Challenge set by Dean last year,  you will agree it is very pleasing on the eye.  Robyn said it will be stored away until she can find someone to give it to - maybe as a picnic rug?

Liz has completed three more table runners. These are donate to the Women's Centre for them to add to  gift baskets they make from time to time.

A late showing as Wendy quickly finished off this beautiful crocheted rug - with a lovely story involved.  Wendy's mother in law started the centre orange and blue blocks when she was 101 years old. She has since passed and Wendy is incorporating these blocks into blankets to be given to her mother-in-law's grandchildren.

Quite a few members today, the weather is perfect for our meetings in the hall.  Welcome back to travellers.
Our Badge Draw was won by Heather today.
We had lots of new quilts and some ladies have been busy completing beautiful quilts for Charity

Anne W has had her daughter spend a lot of time in the Sunshine Coast hospital recently, so in collaboration with Del and some donated fabrics they made this beautiful quilt for the Wishlist Foundation to raise money. It was also quilted by Teen for free as it was charity. They have a house where Anne was able to stay while her daughter was in hospital.  Well done ladies.

This is the reverse side.

Cheryl's Scrap Hexagon Quilt

Marlena made this Baby Girl Quilt for a friend that is having a girl after  two boys and a gap of seven years.

This pretty quilt from Elizabeth is for the Oncology Ward.

Cheryl Ragged Edge Quilt.

Del has made this huge quilt from Aboriginal material picked up on her travels  Aren't they making some very pretty fabrics now.   She had to make it in four blocks and then join them together.

Julie has nearly completed this pretty table runner and by next week it will be off as a gift to her friend.

Liz has completed more Table Runners for the Women's Centre

After Helen's visit to Africa she has completed  this quilt
using African animal place mats from Lesotho.  Stripping and backing is cut from a Sarong.

Joan has had her knee replacement and Julie is out of her cast - she really must stop sky diving over Niagara Falls!!

Our Badge Draw was won today by Jean, that is a lucky table.

Barbara's cushion has been 2  years in the making
you can see why when you see this exquisite Jacobean Embroidery.

Elizabeth calls this her Covid quilt, beautiful colours and she is going to keep this for herself

Cathy's quilt is for her spare room.  4 1/2 years in the making.  She called it " Boys and Girls come out to Play"

Cathy has made a pillowcase to go with it.

Sue spent many months in UK last year and decided to try her hand at this Knitted Lace.  1 - 2 Ply.  Called Shetland Lace.  Reckons she won't be doing it again

Welcome back to Bucasia Beach Quilters for 2021.  We are back meeting at Bucasia Hall - yes it is cooling down a little and quite bearable.
All the girls have been very busy creating over the Christmas summer period.
Dean had set us a challenge for the holidays "Summer in Mackay" some lovely work done. I'm sorry if I can't remember details, as I could not take photos and write at the same time

Anne F dug out these McKenna Ryan  wall hangings, very old UFO's - put them in frames .

An interesting story behind this quirky bag made by Marlena.  She accosted a very happy man at a Rail Station to take a photo of his bag - made from a hardcover book,  His was one of the pictorial versions of Harry Potter books

Margaret has completed this lovely challenge Dean gave us end of 2019.  Nine colours

Marion has a daughter that competes at Camp Drafting.  These exquisite shirts are all for her.  Not really appreciated unless you look closely

Helen  choice of colours are striking
