Wednesday 31st May

We shared the hall with workman today as the Mackay Regional Council start upgrades to our community hall. The louvres have been removed to be replaced with large panels of glass making the hall a lot brighter, although we do wonder how hot the hall will be come summer.

Kay, Del, Diane and Debra's Works of Art.
Thanks to Textile Artist Tutor Caroline Sharkey, participants at our two day workshop all produced stunning and individual pieces.

Greenmount - Sunday 28th May

Sunshine and a gentle cool breeze made for a perfect day at the Annual Greenmount Heritage fair. Our quilt display was a huge success again this year. Twenty two quilts, table runners and craft pieces made a wonderful spectacle for the viewing public.

Caroline Sharkey Workshop

Stage two of Marilyn's art piece. Maz is very proud of what she produced so far, we will be looking forward to seeing this one finished.
Stage one of Debra's art quilt
Just had to take this one to prove Helen can work with pinks and purples.

 Yes we also had eagles.
Debra was the sewing queen, and finished her piece by lunch on the second day.
Well done Debra. It  looks great.
Just a few finishing touches left to do on this one.
Of cause someone has to be different, in a tree themed workshop, hmmm won't mention any names.

Kia's inspiration photo was a sunset taken at Seaforth beach. Great likeness, looks fabulous.

Wednesday 24th May

It was lovely to see a large gathering of our members this week, especially as the weeks ahead are going to be a busy time for the club. Brenda and Dal have been busy collecting quilts and organising items for display for the annual Greenmount Heritage Day on Sunday 28th May, do pop in and view our display in  little building to the left of the homestead.
Talented fabric artist, Caroline Sharkey will be sharing her unique style at our workshop on the 26-27th May.  Really looking forward to seeing the outcome from this workshop.
Just a reminder to fellow quilters, show entries close on the  9th June. Quilts can be delivered later.

Delma purchased this Amish Quilt in America, the entire quilt has been done by hand except the binding. The backing of the quilt has been wrapped to the front to form the binding. If you are at Greenmount this weekend be sure to check out this quilt.

Faye is one of our traditional quilters, this scrappy quilt has been pieced and quilted by hand. Faye said she is using up her bits and pieces. Well done this iddy bitty quilt looks great.

Cheryl thought she would use up her stash of batic fabric with this quilt. Hmm!!! No such luck, Cheryl said there was still lots of fabric left over.

Yoke with the guidance of Joan Flack has completed her first machine pieced quilt. However Yoke reverted to tradition and finished her quilt with hand quilting. Looks amazing Yoke.

Marilyn has finally completed her sampler quilt, Maz thinks she started her sample blocks about 15 or so years ago, some of her fabrics where purchased from The Quilters Lanton which closed many years ago. The samples where thrown in the cupboard and only brought out to be completed when Joan conducted a beginners course at the club last year.

Iris was the lucky recipient of this beautiful cushion for her 80th birthday, all hand embroided by her neighbour who is also well into her 80's. I'm sure Iris has just the right spot at home to show off this wonderful gift.

Wednesday 17th May

Today was a very quiet day with just 20 members attending, I'm not sure if was the forecast  deluge to be expected in the next 24 hours or flu season is upon us. Never mind a pleasant day was had by those who attended, stitching and enjoying the company of fellow quilters and crafters.

Anne was the only one with show and tell today, she has made two continental pillow cases for her twin grandchildren who celebrate a birthday soon.  The girls picked the main fabric and Anne has made them matching cases, as they are starting to recognize letters she has put their initial on the back so they can claim their own special pillow.

Wednesday 10th May

Autumn has finally arrived. We enjoyed a cool day today and although there was some early morning drizzle the day turned out to be quite pleasant. Lesley will be away enjoying their caravan trip for the next few weeks, the blog is in my hands for the time being, so after some time spent working out how to log in as my new PC had to be "recognised" here we go.

Finally done, an extra quilt top completed for a club project has been patiently waiting to be quilted since 2004. Lesley even found the matching fabric for the binding stored safely at her home. The committee have decided to  hold a Silent Auction closing on the 28th May at 3.30pm.  Anyone interested in placing a bid can contact Del or Brenda. The quilt will be on display at Greenmount Heritage Fair on Sunday 28th May.

How to use a pack of fat quarters when they are not quite your colours, hmmm!!! After seeing Deane's Drunkards Path quilt from Chris Timmins' workshop, I had a light bulb moment, yes there was enough material to make something similar. Thank you Deane and Chris, I think the quilt has turned out quite well and have decided it will suit our van. I then custom quilted using my rulers for the first time.

Marlena has been working on this quilt since last October, she estimates there is at least 600 hours of needleturn work. One of Faye Cole's projects she had started but didn't quite like. Marlena has done her proud and the quilt has come together beautifully, I'm sure Faye is looking down and smiling.

Liz has been busy again, finishing another snuggly handmade and hand quilted quilt to be donated to the women's centre. Well done Liz.

Wednesday 3 May 2017

The ladies are back from their Quilt Connect experience and full of excitement to get quilting again. Marilyn showed us some fabric she bought which she thought might match some she had at home and it actually does. Cathy bought a Judy Niemeyer pattern in a fit of confident enthusiasm. And Cathy is bringing her iPad next week so we can get a better view of all the impressive quilts than on Del's phone.
Elaine is visiting the Blacks Beach Vanpark again and came along today with Liz. And she managed to win the badge draw for her efforts.
The Blogperson is leaving for holidays next week. Maybe if Di is not too busy she may be able to add some posts. Thanks Di.

Cheryl won some of these Delectable Mountain blocks in last year's July BomB. Unfortunately the pattern looked a little difficult and not a lot of blocks went into the draw. So she had to dig out her purple fabrics and make some more. She is quite happy with how it has turned out.

Liz has completed another quilt to present to the Women's Centre. This one is a panel and is hand-quilted with a soft fleece backing.

Kay is in the process of binding this quilt for a friend's great grandson. She has made this cute panel come alive by machine blanket stitching around all the motifs and then freemachine quilting around them all. And just look at that loopy border!

Di's grandson is almost one so he gets a new quilt using some construction themed fabric. It has a soft fleece backing and Di has quilted it with cement trucks and helicopters. Ethan is going to love it.

Delma has made this pretty English Paper-pieced quilt and it is going to be her very own. It was a Sue Daley kit with all the fabrics and papers and patterns but the border is Delma's own as she wasn't fussed on the lollipop flowers in the pattern. Aren't the Suffolk Puffs for the flower centres just adorable?

These are the BomB blocks that came in today for our April BomB called Disappearing Pinwheels. It is going to be a great looking quilt when the other 8 blocks come in. Helen has offered to put this one together so thanks in advance, Helen.
