Wednesday April 23rd

We have some very talented ladies amongst our number, and some extremely prolific quilt makers. Marlena has something new each week, as well as Faye Cole. Here are some of their recent works.

Faye Cole said this was her first Hexagon Quilt! Can you believe that. Such a pretty quilt that has been hand quilted by Lynn Hammet.

Another single bed quilt made by Marlena

Brenda Goggin has finished this Japanese inspired quilt for a friend.

Wednesday 16th April

It was another quiet morning at Bucasia. We have survived another cyclone that drifted out to sea at the last minute, although it dumped some welcome rain on the area.
The Easter holidays are claiming a lot of our ladies on travelling or holidaying duty. Come back soon!

Meanwhile here are a few of the lovely items we shared this week.

This is Marlena's handy iron carrier, properly lined with heat resistant fabric and cunningly disguised as a bag. That is very cute and several of the ladies have borrowed your idea.

Yes, it's Marlena again with her beautiful quilt in cool yellow and greys. And with matching bits below.

Brenda Goggin has been working on this Hardanger Table Runner for years and it looks spectacular. Well done Brenda. What a lot of very precise stitching and cutting went into that!

While talking to Carol McDonald I spied these little squares she is working on. The colours and shapes are lovely, but Carol says she's done the interesting bit. Hopefully we will see them again one day in a finished article.

Right ladies, does anyone know how much stitching is required to work off the effects of Easter Eggs?

Wednesday April 9th 2014

It was a busy morning at Bucasia despite a lot of ladies being absent; some of you were on a Retreat and some in Melbourne. Ladies you missed a treat, with Marlena kicking off a series of monthly In-House Workshops, by showing us her Gadgets!

Here is an assortment of rotary cutters and markers, as well as a small viewer and water soluble thread. Be careful how you use this!

This great little gadget turns your fabric strips into beautifully folded bias binding. Now I wish I had one of these.

Marlena showed us various methods of transferring a pattern onto a quilt for quilting and this one uses a chalky application over a template. We debated how durable this would be when working on a large quilt that would be handled a lot.

Thanks Marlena for showing us two whole tables of Gadgets including:
Various rulers, straight and curved
Rotary cutters and mats including a revolving mat, very nifty!
Various methods of marking fabrics
A handt spring-up holder for an iron
A bias Maker (use with spray starch says Karen)
Various pins including directional pins and a handy magnet for those spills
And much much more

Finally, we must mention the must-have corkscrew and champagne stopper!

These In House Workshops continue next month with Joan Flack tackling Borders, Corners and Mitres.

Today we had not one single quilt for Show and Tell
But we did have a lovely small elephant made by Marlena, a pair of baby blocks made by Jan for the Show Sales and I'm popping in some lovely embroidery by Ruth.

Today was also Committee Meeting day and some dates for the future were confirmed.

Wednesday 21st May will be our Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer and after a LOT of discussion it was decided that food should be yellow, and ladies can dress in rainbow colours. If they would like to. Rainbow was chosen to reflect the different colours various cancer charities are associated with. We joked that we expect ladies to sit in rainbow colour order, but you never know.

Sunday 25th May is the Greenmount Heritage Day where we will be putting on a display. Your contributions and help will be welcome. It's a lovely day out.

Wednesday 2nd April

What a lovely day we had at Bucasia on Wednesday. The weather was marvellous, hopefully all those hot and wet days are gone for a while and we can enjoy some Autumn weather.

We had quite a number of completed BOM's and Di Hope was the lucky winner this month.

Di also brought along a quilt she has made with Charm Squares using the same technique.

Di has also made some shoe bags for our Quilt Expo sales table in July. The shoe bags look like little britches and one shoe goes in each side of 'pant leg'.

Erica has finished her fish quilt. The quilt block designs were released on a monthly  basis and completed as they became available.

This is another quilt made by Erica using a 'layer cake pack'.

Faye Cole has completed a raggy quilt which has been pieced with squares which were cut using a Die cutting machine. Pretty trendy Faye!

Kay has made this tablecloth for a friend who is returning to Finland. I have enlarged the photo so that the embroidery around the outside of the cloth can be seen. Kay has embroidered the names of the ladies in her group around the edge of the cloth. A very special keepsake for her friend to take back with her.

Kia has been busy collecting denim from friends and family and has put together these table runners and cushion. A great way to recycle Kia.

Robyn has made this quilt for her daughter.

Beth has made this beautiful quilt using a pattern from the 'Linus Quilt Book' in our library.
This is another beautiful quilt made by Beth for her daughter. It is called 'Tree of Life'.
