Wednesday April 9th 2014

It was a busy morning at Bucasia despite a lot of ladies being absent; some of you were on a Retreat and some in Melbourne. Ladies you missed a treat, with Marlena kicking off a series of monthly In-House Workshops, by showing us her Gadgets!

Here is an assortment of rotary cutters and markers, as well as a small viewer and water soluble thread. Be careful how you use this!

This great little gadget turns your fabric strips into beautifully folded bias binding. Now I wish I had one of these.

Marlena showed us various methods of transferring a pattern onto a quilt for quilting and this one uses a chalky application over a template. We debated how durable this would be when working on a large quilt that would be handled a lot.

Thanks Marlena for showing us two whole tables of Gadgets including:
Various rulers, straight and curved
Rotary cutters and mats including a revolving mat, very nifty!
Various methods of marking fabrics
A handt spring-up holder for an iron
A bias Maker (use with spray starch says Karen)
Various pins including directional pins and a handy magnet for those spills
And much much more

Finally, we must mention the must-have corkscrew and champagne stopper!

These In House Workshops continue next month with Joan Flack tackling Borders, Corners and Mitres.

Today we had not one single quilt for Show and Tell
But we did have a lovely small elephant made by Marlena, a pair of baby blocks made by Jan for the Show Sales and I'm popping in some lovely embroidery by Ruth.

Today was also Committee Meeting day and some dates for the future were confirmed.

Wednesday 21st May will be our Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer and after a LOT of discussion it was decided that food should be yellow, and ladies can dress in rainbow colours. If they would like to. Rainbow was chosen to reflect the different colours various cancer charities are associated with. We joked that we expect ladies to sit in rainbow colour order, but you never know.

Sunday 25th May is the Greenmount Heritage Day where we will be putting on a display. Your contributions and help will be welcome. It's a lovely day out.
