Yet another lovely morning at Bucasia. We hit the 30 number again today with a lot of regulars still travelling or about to. Good to hear travelling stories from those who have returned. (But, apparently, not a lot of shopping was done at Harrods. Sad about the Aussie dollar.) And there were a few little Blankets of Love being worked on today after the inspiration last week. Keep working with love ladies!
Barbara was so impressed with winning this valentine Bomb in February that she made another 16 heart blocks in order to have a good sized quilt. Di Hope has quilted it for Barbara and now she just has binding to go.
These Teatime Placemats belong to Elaine who made them as a set of four from a Judy Niemeyer pattern. What a stunning table setting.
Elaine also finished this pieced and crocheted quilt for a niece who loves horses. The blocks are backed with polar fleece and blanket stitched together. The crocheting is then worked into the blanket stitched edges. Elaine was nonplussed when someone told her today that the pattern should have another 6 rows of double crotchet around the border. "It is finished!"
Keep on Trucking. Anne F made this grey and green quilt for their self-renovated motorhome, Izzy. It is Anne's first attempt at machine quilting a full sized quilt and the geometric quilting is perfect for this boldly geometric quilt.
The badge draw today was won by Robyn Mc
the heart quilt above...is there a pattern for it that I can buy? Or a web site I can look it up and find out how much material I need for a queen size quilt? thx, Charlee
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Charlee, apparently our comment notification was turned off and I have only just seen this. Thank you for the comment. We believe you are our second! Unfortunately, I can't find where I wrote down the details of where this pattern came from. It was a 2014 McCalls Quilting magazine and I believe it was available on their website, but not sure if that is still the case. Just had a quick look and couldn't find it. I don't even have the original quilters name. If I haven't changed the pattern too much I usually credit them in my notes. But because our club subscribes to this magazine I sometimes just tell them to look in the magazine.
ReplyDeleteHere are our instructions members had in order to complete this block. Only for one block sorry.
Valentine Heart
Choose 3 fabrics in one colour. Make the strips a dark and a light in a small print.
Use a white on cream or cream fabric for the background.
Cut 1 strip 1½” X 8½” from each strip fabric.
Cut 1 triangle from a 6½” square of heart fabric.
Cut a 5¼” square of heart fabric and cut twice diagonally. Use 2 triangles for the heart top. Similarly cut in background fabric and use 1 triangle for heart top centre.
Cut a 4⅞” square of background fabric and cut diagonally once. These are the heart base.
Cut a 2⅞” square of background fabric and cut diagonally once. These 2 triangles are the heart top edge.
Sew pieces together being careful not to stretch bias edges and making sure points extend where necessary. Piece seams and snip corners one at a time.
The blocks should measure 8½”.
Found it! It was from a quilt called Making Valentines by Wendy Sheppard in McCalls Quilting Volume 22 Number 2. It was the 2015 Mar/Apr edition. They actually had a kit available too for a 62 X 73 quilt MQK15044.
